Album Review
By and by as in times of old Helloween forge new ground in the overpopulated, sterile style known as Power Metal with their most daring delivery to date, the ‘Dark Ride’. Not surprisingly however, it was met with a hostile reception from fanboys and those simply wanting to hear further continuations of the ‘Managers’ series.
The production is crisp and the instruments are tight. This is a dark Helloween the likes of which we’ve never seen and tragically will presumably never see again. The guitars are incredibly substantial, sounding as though they’ve been tuned to ‘D’ or ‘B’ even. There is an underlying sinister vibe that penetrates the majority of the material. The guitars are technical and fierce, the leads are blazing and the performances face melting.
The bass follows the guitars a bit a lot yet will in general split away on occasion. The drums are menacing and bombastic. They are maybe the solitary thing that is typical for the style. There are a few consoles to a great extent too.
The vocals are pretty much what you’ve generally expected from Andy. He works really hard of rasping and crooning his way through the collection. They lyrics are likewise a change for the band as they are more introspective and smart. Conceded there are a few fun tunes on here yet this is a more profound collection than we’ve generally expected from the champions of Euro-Power Metal.
The downsides, if there are any is that they didn’t continue on this in this highly original style. For too long Power Metal has been an energetic, ecstatic affair that never adventures outside of the blissful palace it was made in. This collection goes over the walls and looks to vanquish new grounds that were thought unattainable until groups Nevermore came around.
This is something that EVERY Power Metal fan needs to adjust their collection. There is a little bit of something here for everybody. Try not to listen to the individuals who might pass judgment on this collection as something to discard. This collection was an endeavor to breathe new life into the boring and practically dead universe of Power Metal.
