Subsequent to tuning in to this collection, there’s no rejecting that Symphony X are a top pick band. The innovative neo-old style crunching guitar riffs, to the astonishing vocal conveyance, to the very much organized drumlines, to the consoles that add an entire degree of profundity to the melodies… and to finish it off, tasteful songwriting and plan to integrate everything in impeccably.. bringing forth a standout amongst other Prog Metal collections.
Features are wherever throughout the collection. Opener “Of Sins And Shadows” has a hefty, underhanded energy throughout, with its nearly Pantera-like riffing and dull, nearly Dimmu Borgir-like console work, and Russel Allen’s typical novel and amazing vocal conveyance. “Sea Of Lies” and “Out Of The Ashes” join the components of prog, neoclassical and exemplary hefty metal seemlessly. “The Accolade” eases back things down a piece with its console weighty plans and enthusiastic vocal conveyance. The title track is a decent long epic in itself, however perhaps a little *too* long to be totally charming, yet an incredible exertion throughout. “Candlelight Fantasia” is a lovely ‘power ballad’… an ideal completion of the ideal prog metal collection. While the rest of moderately unexciting, that is simply because they are contrasted with these already previously mentioned eminent tracks; they actually give a fascinating listening experience.
I don’t exactly understand why a few group disdain this collection, yet I can sincerely say it’s one of my number one metal collections ever… and I’m not so much as a major aficionado of Prog Metal in the first place! It’s differed, very much created and orchestrated, top notch and has amazing creation. Russell Allen’s vocals are unique standout, allongside with Michael Romeo’s brilliant guitar exhibitions. Whether you like prog metal or not, you need to check this collection out.
