Album Review
Draconian is an inquisitive substance in that they apparently came from out of no where into the spot light after a couple of rather top notch discharges. Lisa Johnson is by a long shot a stand apart artist and absolutely extraordinary compared to other female singers in the Metal field today.
The creation is adequate for the melodies inside. The guitars have an extremely Black Metal feel to them settling on more opened chorded/single noted sections then the crunch the band would sometime in the future. They are a shockingly epic yet unbelievably melancholic. There are no performances except for the leads are strong and wretchedness filled. They just complement the distress in the verses.
The bass pretty much follows the guitars and drums yet it sounds great in no way different. The drums are pretty much standard Goth/Doom designs, yet they accomplish function admirably with the material. The consoles add to the energetic air and help with the foundation of the guitar laments. The verses are more normal for the style, about affection and misfortune with a sonnet tossed in for good measure.
The vocals from the two artists are splendid. The male vocals go from verbally expressed word to more mid-went Blackish wails to more throaty Death Metal snarls. The female vocals are dynamic and sharp. They add a more intense yet classy differentiation to what exactly has gotten one of the more played out brand names in underground Metal.
By and large the solitary grumblings about this collection are that after the midway imprint a portion of the melodies begin to mix together. That and that Lisa isn’t highlighted all the more noticeably. Beside these, this is an awesome introduction collection from an exceptional Goth/Doom Metal band. Enthusiastically suggested.
