Fan Review: Memento Mori is in my eyes an interesting and clearly different album than its predecessors. After getting a certain overdose of Morgan’s typical guitar playing after the two World War albums, apparently the course had to be changed a bit for the band as well. The booklet tells us that the album was almost entirely written by Daniel Rostén – a fact that Marduk seem to want to emphasize as well, since on previous albums, as far as I remember, no musician references to the songs are mentioned.
In the music this is now reflected in such a way that the guitar almost moves into the background, but the bass and the drums, quite punk-heavy especially act in the foreground. I did not pay much attention to the two singles before the release, but the whole album forms a unity in a special way, it is actually a 40-minute sonic picture that should be enjoyed in one piece, loud and with good equipment, because it has a rich texture to offer. Quite a great unusual sound experience, great cymbal playing on drums by Simon Schilling, the bass takes over some melodies now and then, only accompanied by the guitar. On bass, Joel, Devo as well as Daniel were involved, and this instrument was obviously given a special role in the work
