About this Album
With their new album the Swedish weirdos Diablo Swing Orchestra top the previous album “Sing Along Songs for the Damned and Delirious”. The songs here are even more catchy and entertaining. Once again the troupe mixes metal and rock with swing, classical and all kinds of world music, the appropriate instruments are used of course. So besides the usual band line-up (vocals, guitar, bass, drums) you’ll also find brass and strings, the cello is even often used as an “equal” instrument. The female opera vocals (yes, there’s also additionally) were, in direct comparison to the predecessors, somewhat scaled back, which I personally like; for me it was a bit too penetrating.
The opener “Voodoo Mon Amour” continues the tradition of the previous albums, on which there was also a swing metal number at the beginning. There are a bit more of these this time, which I find very good, because I always liked them best with Diablo Swing Orchestra. For the first time, “Aurora” is also a purely classical number.
As already mentioned, the songs go better in the ear this time, despite all the weirdness. In my opinion, the band has succeeded with “Pandora’s Piñata” their best album so far. If you like unconventional sounds in the rock/metal genre, you should definitely give it a listen.
