Album Review
Children of Bodom have in fact expanded their sound in new ways since the “Hatebreeder” days. “Are You Dead Yet?” filled in as an ideal illustration of how standard openness can alleviate the music of a generally excellent band, however I am soothed to state that Children of Bodom have stepped forward. As far as I can tell, each collection following “Follow the Reaper” was a stage in reverse, yet “Blooddrunk” is on about the same level as “Hate Crew Deathroll”. For those of you that don’t perceive what I’m getting at, I’ll put it in dull terms: this collection is about 20% poop and 80% metal. On the off chance that there’s anyone out there holding your breath for another “Follow the Reaper” or “Hatebreeder” collection, I’m worried you will choke.
While “Blooddrunk” actually keeps up the mark Bodom sound, elements of neo-traditional force metal have disappeared. Alexi actually shreds and cries like no other Finnish guitarist; Janne overwhelms the synths; drummer, cadence, bassist are a stone consistent musicality area; however the general sound of the band is quite much heavier than at any other time. I think they’ve figured out how to catch what they were going for in “Are You Dead Yet?” effectively, and this is another sound I could become acclimated to.
Immediately there is a clench hand in face moment as “Hellbound On My Trail” kicks the collection off, and you’re thinking, “Hello, possibly this won’t be so awful all things considered. The riffing is thrashy, the drums are acceptable, and the synths are utilized elegantly.” Then you have a moment of clearness and a tear is shed, isn’t that so? Screw no. Then you begin headbanging on the grounds that this is some of the most insidious poo you’ve heard out of Bodom in quite a while. The title track proceeds with this executing binge, CoB are doing great and the loss of life is rising. Alright, then we hit a cycle of a divider with “Lobodomy”… don’t misunderstand me the tune of this melody is unadulterated screwing virtuoso and the track has its moments alongside some great soloing and a decent scaffold, however come on, they’ve taken the Bodom theme and driven it directly off a precipice.
“One Day You Will Cry” is the specific inverse of “Lobodomy”, an extraordinary introduction, however the melody and scaffold come up short. “Grin Pretty For The Devil” is another expansion to the murdering binge, and is a beautiful freaking sweet track that drives you directly into the diamond of the collection: “Tie My Rope”. This track is only directly up debilitated, all that you could want, hefty, melodic, and appealing. “Finished With Everything, Die For Nothing” is a nice track, yet nothing uncommon. “Restricted From Heaven” is another one of my #1 tracks; I consider it the “song” of the collection. “Roadkill Morning” is another thrashy track that closes the collection rather unexpectedly, a quality I generally appreciate in a decent metal collection.
Nearly everything on this collection fills a need. The nearest it gets to fillers are “Grin Pretty For the Devil”, “Finished With Everything, Die For Nothing” and “Roadkill Morning”, which are for the most part fun fair tracks notwithstanding. The creation is first class and vocals are appalling much the same as I like them. So in the event that you get the time get it and give it a turn or two. You may like the new heavier Children of Bodom. I should simply say that this collection is a screwing slaughter and it will in fact leave you “Blooddrunk”.
