About this Album
The album makes extensive use of accordion, which may deter some traditional black metal listeners, but brings a different feel and approach to the atmosphere, giving it a more “mournful” and melancholic sound.
They also use a lot of dual vocals (low and high growls), as well as some background sound effects which may also deter some traditional black metal listeners.
If you don’t mind this approach to black metal, then I think you’ll love this album, it’s very atmospheric, since most people won’t understand Russian lyrics, the focus is naturally on the music (a standard in extreme music anyway, but it’s accentuated here).
The main thing you’ll notice is, of course, the use of the accordion, played by Артем Мнацацаканян (Artem Mnatzkanyan) which, while not played throughout the song, is used extensively in intros, bridges, outros and so on, mainly to set the tone/atmosphere of the song and accompany the lyrics, which deal mostly with traditional black metal themes like nature (especially winter), war and pain, and does a great job of doing so.
The vocals are mostly high pitched growls with the occasional use of a low growl as a background done at the same time, the vocalist sounds distinctive and does a good job in not being so monotonous as well as following the tone of the songs and the atmosphere.
The drums and guitars sound pretty standard for black metal but with their own creative compositions and sound; The songs are pretty atmospheric, melody based, riffs. The tremolo and up tempo flat 16 notes throughout the album are standard, but they also have their slower tempos and groovier parts that help keep the album flowing without sounding like it’s the same riff and rhythm all the time (something some black metal bands fail to do).
