About this Album
The ingredients of this record are not particularly complex: heavy, slow riffs, melodic, sustained guitar solos, growls and a (to my mind somewhat expressionless) speaking voice. Occasionally there is a female voice, a flute or keyboards to loosen things up. This is not particularly original, and because some of the overlong songs are similar, they are not particularly varied. But: If you listen carefully, you can find some highlights (some guitar solos, the midtempo song in the fourth position etc.). Besides, the whole thing has atmosphere. You have to let yourself go with the simplicity of the record and not let yourself be carried away by the good reviews in the magazines to exaggerated expectations. Then you will eventually realise that “Saturn in Ascension” is actually quite good, in a very unspectacular way.
